  1. Ok I’ll start. I love the pitch clock and the way it’s made games faster and more watchable without taking away any of the strategy. Conversely, I loathe the runner starting on second base in extra innings. It cheapens the game.

    • Agree on the pitchclock but not on the ghost runner. I remember Detroit in I believe an 18 inning affair with the Jay’s from which Detroit’s Pitching staff never recovered. In today’s game with no holds barred we have to protect these staffs from needless innings that usually end via a dinger. Plus I think it actually allows a manager the ability to stratogize. I find it exciting and a benefit to keeping staffs healthy.

      • Very much agree. I think the epidemic of pitcher injuries is the next great problem baseball needs to fix. I hope Theo Epstein can find some solutions.

  2. I’m most excited about a new voice coming to the Tigers on Bally. I hope that they go outside the organization preventing the “Lloyd McClendon Syndrome”. I think it’s okay to have Michigan ties as a couple of prospects do. I just hope whoever comes comes with enough status to call their own shots. We can’t just change the figurehead; it needs to go deeper. We need a team that work’s together and complements each other rather than a commentator chair filled with the prize of the day.

  3. I hate that the Nike logo appears on all jerseys and everything MLB dugout apparel-related. Some of the apparel actually looks nice but that Nike logo (and sleeve logos) ruins it and ruins any chance that I would open up my wallet and purchase something. Question: Will any of you purchase a new Tigers jersey with that logo in addition to the Meijer one that appears on the sleeve?

      • On the other hand, it’s wonderful how many new people I meet down here in Florida when I wear either my Tiger cap or Michigan cap. Great conversation starters. Also amazing how many Michiganders live down here!

    • I’d rather have Meijer, a corporation with a heart, than the Guardians with Marathon and their price gouging. Corporate sponsors are everywhere, it started with renaming our ballparks and now we wear it on our sleeve. A sign of our times.

  4. MLB obviously does not incorporate weather considerations in scheduling. The 2024 Tigers open March 28 at the White Sox and play eight series in outdoor cold weather locations until they play at Tampa Bay April 22.

  5. I find it interesting the two top teams in both leagues winning over 100 are not winning their postseason games with Baltimore’s back to the wall. I’m not on X so I couldn’t see who that person is looking for a manager job you referred to the other day. So I’m going to guess Ausmus. If so, that’s a Yikes!

    • Hi, Carol – You would be right. It is Brad. Third time is the charm, they say. 😉

Btw, to everyone – Joining X (Twitter) is very easy. All you need is a name (whatever you choose) and an email address. Then you can customize which feeds you want to see. • It makes you wonder how valuable that first round bye is when your first game is against a team on a roll. At least in the NCAA you play your way to the top. Ask ‘Ole pink shirt how valuable those days off are?

  6. I am getting weary watching the catcher try to pull every pitch into the strike zone and sometimes succeeding in deceiving the umpire into calling it a strike. I know this is now a skill coveted by teams but it’s distracting and ridiculous to see them attempt to pull very bad pitches into the zone.

  7. Watched – mostly listened – to Astros/Twins game on Fox last night. Oh how I hope we get a professional Bally team to cover the Tigers next, and years to come, baseball. Those guys last night kept me glued, informed, entertained. Lastly, please remove C-mo from all mics.

    • Mario has moved on with his life managing his rental properties and spending more time with his family. He’s no longer interested in all the travel that comes with broadcasting

  8. The new rule that I am uncomfortable with is the rule that states that a relief pitcher has to pitch to three batters before being replaced. Sometimes after pitching to one or two batters, it is clear that a relief pitcher does not have his stuff. Sometimes he’s wild. The manager has to leave him in until he completes pitching to a third batter. It strikes me as sort of cruel…

    • I understand it can be bad to watch if a relief pitcher doesn’t have good stuff but I am so happy not to see multiple pitching changes in an inning and a pitcher coming in for one batter. This has sped up the game and seems like a very positive change to me.

  9. I pity any team that would hire Asmus as their manager, after 4 years of that “deer in the headlights” look that he had was way too much. One of the few things AA ever did right was fire him although he was at least 2 years too late in doing that.

    • I can’t figure out why Ausmus never went the minor league manager/bench coach route. I don’t know that he could never be a good manager but most people don’t just step in at the top and succeed.

  10. Rainouts, Brad Ausmus, catchers trying to manipulate the strike zone, the quality of TV announcers, reference to the departed pink shirt, the strangeness of post season schedules–all of these are perceived imperfections in the national game. That’s one of the reasons I love this blog. Anything is fair game, and everything is stated courteously.
