  1. Comerica Park is nice but if I had to choose one word, it would be the immortal words of Randy Smith from a radio interview from years ago – “adequate”. There’s nothing exceptional about it that stands out to me. I’ve been fortunate to visit many other ballparks around the country and can think of several that I enjoyed more. Many parks from this new era have much more character, better sight lines, and a better overall fan experience. Of course, I was spoiled as a youngster going to Tiger Stadium, which had so much character and uniqueness about it. It’s still in great shape and incredibly well-maintained, but outside of the action on the field, there’s not much more to capture the imagination.

  2. I would tell them it looks like one giant salad bowl. (The late great local sportswriter Joe Falls said exactly this on media day back in 2000 shortly before Comerica Park officially opened.) I agreed with him then and all these years later I still agree with him.

  3. Forgettable. Good freeway access, but no character. Massive centerfield designed for another era. Many, many seats remote from field. Crowded bathrooms. Poor food. Awesome statue of Ernie.

  4. If you were a fan of Tiger Stadium and were against replacing it, then you don’t care for Comerica Park. If you aren’t in that ilk, then take some time and walk around the park and look at the Walk of Fame displays in the concourse and the Statues in the outfield. Shopping in the stores is nice. Go early and enjoy the unique restaurants and bars in the park. If you have young kids, take them on the Ferris Wheel and Carousel. Visit with adults and watch from the Pepsi Porch. I’ve been to the park many times and have sat all over the park. I’ve never had a bad seat. I can’t say that about my many visits to Tiger Stadium.

  5. Certainly not intimate like Tiger Stadium. Nice sight lines all around the park. A little underwhelming, but I think it is is a nice stadium. Much better than Yankee Stadium and Nats Park – sorry Holly.

  6. My self imposed hiatus from spending $$ on this team is at about the five year mark, so my observations are a bit dated. But I think it’s a good looking place as a venue. Decent view of the city, and the field is really well maintained. Plenty of amenities. But I think it really falls short regarding watch -ability of the game, the only reason I would consider going. Just my personal bias, but in general seats are way too far from play and it’s really tough to feel engaged in the action. And yes, I loved Tiger Stadium largely for its intimacy.
This is where Mr. I really missed, I think. There might be appeal for some folks, just not me.

  7. Never been there. Do remember mr. I’s interview about it. He said that concern of fan complaints about the steepness of the climb getting to the seats is the reason the seats are lower and further back from the field.

  8. When the Tigers are bad Comerica is a great place to see them play. There will be lots of open seats so you won’t have to look through the person right in front of you….unless the team is good. I like 3rd base line upper deck …great skyline view… easy concessions, friendly vendors who call you by name from previous trips if you’re a decent tipper… and if you can afford live baseball you can afford to be decent to those giving service.

  9. I don’t disagree with anyone’s comments. I was at the opener in 2000 and its a beautiful venue. Not as good as some of the modern parks (I love PNC in Pittsburgh) but its better than the White Sox and Indians i.m.o. Parking is better, you can walk around the whole park and not miss a pitch and the view of the skyline is great.
That said I miss the grand old lady Tiger Stadium all season long. At nine years old I walked through one of the aisles and stared out into the promised land. The right field overhang, the intimacy of the seating the smell of the food on the grills and its classic tradition have proven irreplaceable to me. Should still be standing with Fenway and Wrigley.

  10. Comerica has its good points such as location. It’s in a good section of the city and not difficult to access like some parks … KC, Arlington TX, Atlanta, St. Pete, Miami. Comerica is a pleasant experience walking in for the first time if you live far from Detroit and only get there once or twice a year. It feels baseball. Aside from that, it’s not an exceptional facility. The scoreboard graphics and noise is irritating and unnecessary if you are there for baseball.
