  1. First, fire the entire group with any input on scouting, drafting and developing players. Second, hire as many people as possible from organizations that routinely have highly rated farm systems such as Atlanta, San Diego, Toronto and Tampa Bay.

  2. New hitting coach, sign some mid level free agents like 2004 time period. Evaluate all front office staff to see who stays and who goes Acquire a few fast players , contact hitters and good fielders and a few power hitters. Start planning and developing who could be future relief pitchers. Be careful with trades, Get players with more upside that are more close to the major leagues. Example quality not quantity.

  4. 1. Encourage people in Michigan to stop ordering/buying Little Ceasar’s Pizza until owner puts money into player development. Maybe if home-state pizza sales collapse the owner will really commit to strengthening the team for loyal fans who also buy his pizza.
    2. Provide a rigorous assessment of Tigers complete organization for successor since will be immediately fired after doing number 1.

  5. 1. Meet with CI and get a clear understanding of his real expectations (if any) for the franchise past being profitable

    2. Eliminate all ‘special advisors’ other than Al and Willie; evaluate and probably replace each department head, and let Gardy describe his own coaches and philosophy before deciding on him.

(2a. See if I can actually find a Tiger Way manual 😣)

  6. Well I would appoint myself third base coach and cry, “Ee-Yah” a lot. But this is probably not what you were looking for, so let’s begin by saying I would A) make a “My way or the highway statement” and fire Happy Ron Gardenhire, naming Steve Liddle as interim manager to complete the season. I would explain that the team had failed to compete and play hard under their beloved Gardy. All this is window dressing. B) The pruning of all other dead wood such as Leyland, Clark, Chadd, Trammel, Littlefield and many more would then begin in earnest.

  7. One – broom all the “Special Assistants to the GM,” except one. Besides, what specifically do these people do? What input do these people have? What do they do that an Assistant GM doesn`t / can`t do?
Second – the one special assistant that would stay would be Dick Egan. I would offer him an on-field position as assistant pitching coach. The Mets made Phil Regan pitching coach so why not the Tigers do something similar? The season has imploded anyway and the team has become a circus with the short-term focus on paying their players peanuts.

  8. If I were appointed Tigers GM, then I must have agreed to certain things, such as being able to have the coaches I want, a budget I can work within, and complete control of my job without interference from any “Advisor” in the organization. So if that was agreed upon, I would find a Momager first thing. I would let her pick her coaching staff. After that, I would head to the minor leagues, with my Momager, to see what we have there. Finally, I would try to include a personal trainer & nutritionist in any new player contract.

  9. First, I’d ask Chris Ilitch if I had complete control. Second, If he answered no (or hesitated) I’d quit. Don’t suspect there’d ever be a third thing I’d do.

  10. 1. Announce to the fans that this rebuild is a sham, and tell them that it’s impossible for an organization to go from producing precious few players from its system to all of a sudden producing 15-20 MLB ready players in a 2-3 year period. Give the Dombrowski “you try and trade them” speech and let everyone know spending will increase once the albatross contracts of Zimmermann and Cabrera are off the books. Remind the fans that 2006 happened with a combination of shrewd veteran trades and free agent signings, along with some young guys making the big club and producing.
    2. If Chris I didn’t send me packing after my announcement, clean the executive branch of the organization from top to bottom.

  11. I wouldn’t take the job to begin with unless the team was sold to an owner who was committed to competing with the elite franchises. If this miracle transpired, then I would find some people who know a lot more about baseball than I do and ask them thousands of questions.

  12. Disconnect JL and every one of his cronies from the organization as soon a possible, assuming that the owner would suck up a few bucks “for the good of the team”. The next step would be determined by how quickly the first could be accomplished. ((Yeah, pretty simple and non-comital but until that is done nothing else matters.))

  13. I would start working on a plan to replace all of the medical and training staff for the ENTIRE organization and place someone in charge of it who knows what they are doing..a follow up is no more contracts to players who do not agree to respect that new training staff cuz we need to protect our investmentS

  16. Offensive Tiger facts for prospective GMs to consider:
    1. They have played 73 games, scoring 3 runs or less in 43 of them (3.5 runs/gm avg). 2. They are 30th in runs scored. 3. They are 30th in OBP. 4. Pitching is the bright spot – team ERA is only 22nd, but they are working on it, especially the bullpen.
