  1. I guess I have been feeling bad lately about my negativity towards the Tigers. All I know is what I see with my own eyes. I have no idea what goes on behind the scenes. Did Brad throw KRod into those games because he thought it was best, or from orders on high? Maybe we need to cut those guys some slack and realize it just isn’t their time now. Maybe i just need to hope for the best, let the chips fall where they may, and continue to yell “Go Tigers”.

    • I’d love to agree. I love the Tigers! Always will. Sometimes though, tough love is in order & this is that time. That housecleaning that I keep mentioning is much-needed. I agree with Holly-people, vote with you wallets. If you’re ok with this mediocrity, keep paying to park, turning the gates, and eating those concessions. If you’re not–STOP! As we all know, money talks…

      • To clarify: I’m not OK with the mediocrity and won’t be going to any games until things get better. Just getting tired with being negative all the time.

    • I know what you mean Sprocket. While one part of me would love to see a total turn-around and huge winning streak followed by a long run in the playoffs, the other part of me is more realistic about what this team has shown us this season.
I feel bad but I really believe that a sell-off should happen in July and hope that Avila gets a fair return. My fear is that the team wins 3 of 4 against the Indians and management decides to stay the course!

  2. After asking some questions to some familiar fans at the Tigers-Rays game two weeks ago, I got the answer as to why there are nets along the foul lines during batting practice. Apparently a couple years ago some fan was beaned badly by a ball. Bad enough to warrant putting up nets during BP. I’m sorry but when one buys an over-priced ticket, one assumes all responsibility to risks associated with the game including baseballs that go in the crowd. I’m amazed that some fans that sit so close to the action refuse to pay attention and spend their time on their phones. Why go to a game if you’re not going to watch it? Oh well, their fault. Fans need to pay attention no matter if it’s BP or live action.

  3. TT bloggers & readers have regularly commented about how the Tigers’ rosters over the last 6-10 years have never fit w/ Comerica Park (i.e. reliance on power hitters, lack of speed, et al) … which is true. But I’ve always wondered, beginning w/ the acquisition of Sheff (one of my favorite Tigers) and especially after the signing of Prince, why didn’t ownership/mngmt simply consider altering the physical configuration of the outfield to better reflect the team? Are/were there mlb rules to prevent such changes? [Yes, I know, doing so STILL wouldn’t have fixed the bullpen ;)]

    • I hope I’m answering your question rightly. The left field fences were moved in back in 04, maybe 05? Earlier in the decade too many Dean Palmer and Juan Gonzalez home runs, of either the game-tying or game-ending variety, ended up as outs at the warning track. The bullpens originally in right field were covered with the bleachers and seats you see on tv. Increased seating capacity generates more revenue. Moved in fences doesn’t punish good hitters.

      • Thanks Chuck & Mike f.! I may have been a bit unclear on what I was originally trying to say (but your answers still might remain same). Comerica’s fences were brought in after 2003 season b/c HR rate for park’s first 3 years was only 65% or so of the non-Comerica MLB average. Changes to fences helped increase the park’s HR rate to 85% or so of league average for the 3 years that followed the ‘shrinkage’. My question was why, especially by the “Miggy/V-Mart/Prince” years, when Detroit had dominant power pitching among its starters (limiting other teams HRs & offense) while relying on power hitting for it’s own offense, why weren’t Comerica’s fences brought even farther in? Especially as team’s lack of speed & defensive limitations seemed exacerbated at home in the large OF.

  4. Jacob. Back when Mr.I was doing an interview about building his new stadium he expressed the strategy of build it huge so other teams hitters(especially line drive types) couldn’t hit homers. We’ll go get the big arcs hitters like McGuire and Miguel(didn’t say Cabrera just his style) and out homer them. Since most hitters bat 4-5 times a game compared to 2-3 put outs-defense is less than secondary. So they moved Travis fryman and Louis Gonzalez and brought Dean Palmer, wrong gone Gonzalez to fit this idea.. So big power hitters who can’t field and power pitchers to strike the others out to lesson batted balls in play.

  5. Starting to like what I see in Mikie Mahtook. I don’t think he’ll ever be an All Star but he seems to play with intensity and effort and he has shown that he can crush a ball. Not taking any walks but perhaps that will come with time. Cautiously optimistic that he could stick in CF.

  6. If it comes down to selling off assets I distrust AA to be able to make a deal that’s going to improve the situation….so far his track record wouldn’t indicate that he’s capable of being able to get something in trade that would help…… getting rid of Maybin without a replacement plan and then of course the signing of Mike Pelfrey (because the scouts said it was a good sign) doesn’t give me much faith that when and if it comes down to wheeling/dealing that it he’s going to be able to pull off anything..could be wrong but to quote Hans Solo in Star Wars….”I have a bad feeling about this”
