OPEN MIKE!

microphoneIt’s time again to head into the weekend hearing from our readers.   You have the rest of the week to hear from Kurt and Holly, today is the day to let them know what you’re thinking on a selected topic.

Friday is the one day of the week (since Tuesday) where we open up the comment parameters for you, so you can get those juices flowing.

Comments on THIS DAY ONLY can be expanded to a maximum of 8 sentences.

We can’t wait to get your thoughts on the following topic.

Despite his season-long struggles at the plate, James McCann is set to return to the team tonight and the hot-hitting John Hicks is expected to return to Toledo.  Are the Tigers making the right move?  State your case!

  1. I don’t think this is the right move. Why not keep Hicks up since he’s earned it. Shouldn’t we be keeping and playing the best players at their position? If/when he cools off, consider bringing McAnn back, provided that he’s earned it. At some point, entertain trading one of them.

  2. what would make anyone think that all of a sudden they would start making the right moves? Of course it’s wrong to send Hicks back to the sticks.

  3. If they are intent on activating McCann, I would keep Hicks up and tell him to figure on playing first base for awhile. There is obviously something wrong either physically or mentally with Cabrera and he has turned into a rally killer too often lately. 10 day DL might do him some good. Thought his comment of “Its not my season” after getting bonked with Casty’s helmet was telling. Something’s up there.

  4. A few good games from a career minor leaguer and suddenly you toss away a struggling McCann with the cannon arm? That’s not a very long leash! Bring back McCann. Take comfort that Hicks is available when needed, as long as he doesn’t go into a slump, which he will. Hicks will be sent down. I am surprised they decided to wait until today to make their decision unless there was some doubt that McCann will be ready.

  5. Organization loyalty to long term players. Each pitcher gets promoted (all things equal) as much to player drafted as compared to traded or signed off the street. Friend of mine (Tim Wellman) was a undrafted cardinals walk on. He outplayed cardinals draft pick (Tim Nieto) yet Nieto got ‘first shot’ anyways. Sparky used same convaluded logic to lose Tim Wetteland.

  6. If I were the Tigers I would do this as well. But with the intention of showcasing McCann. Hopefully he hits a little and can be traded. It would be a beautiful thing if he would net somebody who could acquit himself reasonably well in Comerica’s center field and hit a little. Nobody on hand at the moment seems to be able to manage both of those tasks.

    • Good idea Opus. Best reason for keeping McCann up. Look for one of the local P.R. columnists to write the same thing as soon as they read your post. Wish we were sure he could come out on fire.

  7. I wonder if McCann can play center field? I remember when they made Inge a centerfielder from the catcher position.

  8. If the tigers hadn’t pitched f-rod in April they would be ten games up over we’re they are now. That’s management s pay, Figuring these things. Fan knew more than them. So fire all management, scouts , and farm system development (coaches) it’s a group castastrophic failure. two-houndred million dollar payroll and the team can’t play break even. Fire them all!

  9. Sad to say, not much of a choice. BUT, if he starts hitting, the trade deadline is approaching. I agree with a previous comment, look for someone to patrol CF
