Problem is I have no opinion of current ownership because there is nothing to base it on . A new owner would be unchartered territory . Would they spend ? Would they raise ticket prices ? Too hard to answer at the moment .

I favor new ownership that would want to put their own stamp on the team. They would certainly bring their own team of management, coaches, training staff and medical team and analytics. All that soorly need to be revamped and reset from the current status of this team.

I very much hope, and expect that the Tigers will be sold. I strongly believe that Chris Illitch has no interest in the team and would NEVER try to build a winner like his dad did.

All I really know about Chris Illitch is what I’ve read on the sports blogs. It would be nice to find an owner who was not just a fan, but a TIGERS fan. Maybe someone who has something to prove, and would go for the ring. It would be a great start for a new owner, as Mike has left him with a pretty good lineup. Add a few pieces and aim high for two years.

I prefer new ownership that will hire a manage who will accept nothing but full hustle on every play of every game from every player. There is a reason why Joe Maddon can win with whatever players he puts on the field. The game needs to be respected.

I am quite sure that the Tigers will not remain an elite team with the Ilitches. With a new owner, it is entirely possible that they will return to elite status. So I would be inclined to roll the dice.

If the Ilitch family wants to keep the Tigers and make a go of it, then I would be fine with that. Chris out of the shadows is an unknown commodity. No more or less unknown than new ownership would be. The intrigue is interesting but I just want to hear “Play Ball”.

The Tigers’ drafting and development incompetence over the last decade is almost at the level of scandal. It seems incongruous that a team should spend so much in the quest for a championship and then accept such mediocrity in the prospect department. Even if the strategy is to trade prospects for proven players, you need good prospects for trade bait.

Vincent, Are you saying the Tigers have not done well trading their young prospects for proven talent? Andrew Miller is the one star among the several “prospects” that were traded to acquire some pretty good players.

There is LOTS more to it than simply the kids traded in any particular trade. There is also the big bucks that impact other deals and handcuffs the team so it can’t keep various people.. Too many players like Nathan & Pelfrey end up being expensive BUSTS. I would rather have a kid who plays for $500,000 than a washed up old guy who does less for 10 million.

Hope for the best and please not the worst. Just hope the new owner, whoever, is not a business parasite like the clown’s of the Twinkies or Miami fish. Especially a WCF of the lions. When mid-upper mid-market(pre-1982 recession) teams are that bad thru out a fifty years ownership-its a purposefully business plan. No one is that incompetent.

The only allure for ownership change is the opportunity to finally dislodge long-reigning management & staff who have become obstacles to success. What wouldn’t change is the payroll constraints/luxury tax. Having said that, statements made by the Illitch family last Spring indicate they want the businesses to remain in the family. As improbable as it is, & knowing little about Chris, I’d like him to dedicate this season to his Dad & do everything possible to deliver that trophy to his Mom in Mr. I’s memory.

I second Helens comments on needing management and staff changeover. Avila was Mikes doing and as long as Marian is alive, I think it stays Mikes team out of respect to family. Can Chris make a change for the fans and bring in an “Epstein”. because that is what it is going to take. Happy Valentine – pitcher and catcher report day.
